Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is hosting a very special event later today. Unlike the company’s iPhone launch, which was only available for viewing in certain places around the world, today’s launch will be streamed around the world on the internet and through Apple TV. The news was revealed this morning when the “Apple Events” channel returned to the menu of the set-top box.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is rumored to be planning the iPad 5 launch for later today, but nobody is sure exactly what the company is going to offer. A new iPad is the most likely outcome and new MacBooks also appear to be on the way. Whether the company will release a successor to the iPad Mini, or any other product, is still up in the air, however.

The Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) event planned for today has not been the subject of a huge amount of rumor. Financial analysts, who usually drive a good deal of the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) rumor mill, are not all that interested in the iPad compared to the iPhone. The iPad simply doesn’t bring in enough money.
There are many fans of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) who simply cannot wait for the event, however. The iPad 5 launch will kick off at 1 PM EST, and it will be available to stream over the internet from Apple’s web site.

iPad 5 rumors have been few and far between, but there is some information out there. Analysts believe that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is planning a major refresh of the physicality of the device this time around. The new iPad will be a good deal lighter, a little thinner, and some of the bezel will be shaved off the sides – according to rumors, at least.
In terms of features, just one has been making the rounds, and it’s not exactly groundbreaking. The iPad 5 will apparently feature a fingerprint scanner like that contained in the new iPhone 5s. The device is also likely to come in the new three-tone color scheme that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) introduced with the latest iPhone.
