iPhone 6: What Do Investors Want?

Updated on

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) just launched its latest iPhones, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. The new smart phones offer little in the way of revolutionary features, though it could be argued that the fingerprint scanner is a big change. The tech community has already moved on to talking about the iPhone 6.

iPhone 6: What Do Investors Want?

Over at CNET, Lance Whitney wrote a piece about the iPhone 6, and the features that he hopes Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is going to offer when it releases the model in the next year or so. What investors want to know is what effect those features could have on the company’s stock price.

Apple iPhone 6 features

The article at CNET runs the gamut of features that everybody is looking for in a smartphone, though some that are particular to the iPhone. Whitney wants the iPhone 6 to have a bigger screen, longer battery life, more storage, Near Field Communication, Higher Pixel Cameras, and integration of the new wifi standards.

Some of those features are more likely than others. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will probably up the size of the iPhone screen. That’s the way the market is going, and Apple showed that it didn’t need to resist the trend with the iPhone 5. More storage is also likely, particularly if the company updates the max storage of the iPad in its next iteration.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may or may not include NFC in its next phone, and the same goes for next generation wifi. None of those are proper standards yet, and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) might wait and see until that it is established before implementing the expensive, and margin reducing, technology.

A higher Megapixel camera is one of the more interesting propositions. More pixels do not make a better image, and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has one of the best cameras out there. One of the reasons for that is the company’s low megapixel and higher sensor size.

Apple iPhone 6 for investors

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) needs to hit at least some of the trends that consumers are interested in if it wants to keep ahead of competitors. If the iPhone 6 introduces these features it will be one of the best phones of all time, but it will not be revolutionary.

In order to spur sales and boost shares Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) needs to inspire awe again. If the company wants to do that with the iPhone 6, it will need more than 128 GB of storage.
