As we all know, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s revenue depends a lot on the advertisements that it displays on its various offerings and third-party websites. You must have noticed that YouTube displays a big banner ad on its homepage, ads before the video starts (those ones that you can skip after 5 seconds), and also during the playback of the video. All these ads are annoying, right?
What may come as a surprise to you, especially from a company like Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), that the company is currently running an experiment on YouTube that removes all ads. Google regularly runs experiments to test various features, and perhaps this new experiment is Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s way to test out something.
Well, whatever the case may be, what’s good is that you can disable all those pesky ads on YouTube right now, with just a small trick.
To block or disable all ads on YouTube
To block or disable all ads on YouTube, firstly, you’ll need to open the developer console on your browser:
- Chrome: Press Ctrl-Shift-J to open the developer’s console.
- Firefox: Press Ctrl-Shift-K to open the developer console.
- Opera: Press Ctrl-Shift-I.
- Internet Explorer: Press F12 and then switch to console view.
Next, in the console, enter the following code and hit the enter key.
document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=oKckVSqvaGw; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload();
This will set the cookie on your system which will instantly disable all ads on YouTube. Try browsing different videos and you’ll notice cleaner pages – with no ads displayed anywhere.
To disable this experiment and start viewing ads again, simply clean out all cookies on your system.
Since this is something that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) allows deliberately, it is possible that it won’t work in the future. But for now, enjoy the ad free experience on YouTube, without using any plugins or extensions.
