Motorola is going to enter in the competitive Android smartphone market with its new model named as Moto X. Company’s CEO Dennis Woodside have also confirmed that Moto X exists, which would be Motorola’s flagship phone and it would be made in the USA, although some components will come from Taiwan, Korea and elsewhere.
Moto X will be a mid-range device that’s going to release this summer. The release is now even confirmed officially by Motorola in a press release, and special significance is given to the fact that the Moto X will be the first smartphone assembled in the USA.
Both Motorola and Google have high expectations from this upcoming phone. This would be the first phone that would be released after Google purchased Motorola, and with it, there comes a hope that Motorola too can shine with its hardware and the popular Android platform.
Moto X Photos
Images of the Moto X handset have appeared on Tinh te, and from the looks, it stands out from others. The phone has a non-removable back panel with holes for a speaker, and looks sleek from the sides. The below photo is of the black color version, and just like many other leaks from sites like Weibo, we can notice the signature three-line speaker grill on the back, centered camera with a single LED flash and Motorola’s logo below it.
We can also notice a 3.5mm headphone jack centered at the top, and a second microphone right next to it. The plastic is given a matte finish which means it won’t attract finger prints which is a good thing.
Here are some more back plates that the handset might come up with. There’s also a chance that the customers who order the phone online will be given the option for personalized engraving and custom pre-loaded wallpapers as well. Best of all, since the Moto X will be made in the USA, customers in the the USA will get the phone only within a few days after they order it.
Moto X Specs
In terms of hardware, since this phone would be a mid-range offering from Motorola, it’s a high chance that it would not come with a powerful hardware, but it would come with a mid-end hardware that would ‘just work.’
Dennis Woodside at the D11 revealed that “”the device knows different use states” and is “contextually aware.” The phone is smart enough to recognize whether it’s in your pocket, when you’re driving, or whether you want to take a picture, and it will offer functionality specific to your situation. Overall, the aim is to make this smartphone really “smart”, and rather than focusing on the specifications like Samsung, the company has focused on features that would make it stand out from other smartphones.
Talking about the display, then it would come with a 720p OLED display which can be anywhere from 4.3 inches to 4.7 inches. Moto X could also come with 4G LTE MIMO dual antenna, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. During launch, the phone would be running on the latest version of Android which is 4.2.2.
Moto X Price
If rumors are true, than the Moto X could cost as little as $199 and that too, without any contract. For sure, this price would entice many users. Motorola is going to make this phone as an affordable one, and if it really retails at this price, then it would fall under Nexus territory. Will the Moto X give Nexus 4 a tough competition? Only time will tell.
Motorola as a company hasn’t made any profit since Google’s buyout, but the same company was once a leader in mobile computing and Android smartphones. The company hasn’t had much activity in recent times, but is this the calm before the storm? Is Motorola going to come back on the stage with a bang?
Now with Google’s mind and Motorola’s hardware, it would be interesting to see how the company delivers on Moto X’s expectations. For now, we just hope that Motorola doesn’t disappoint us this time, because it’s not just about Motorola’s reputation but also about Google.
