Google Finally Adds The Ability To Call From Hangouts

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has finally added the ability for users to make phone calls right from within a Hangout. Users can initiate a phone call from Hangouts in Gmail, Google+ and also from the Chrome extension. Many people were demanding this functionality from a long time because when Google replaced Google Chat with Hangouts, it was made impossible for users to voice call, but fortunately, not so anymore.

Gmail in a tweet says that this new feature will be rolling out to all over the next couple of days.

Google Users Missing Calls From Gmail

In the blog post, Alex Wiesen, Senior Software Engineer of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) says that they have heard loud and clear that users were missing the ability to make calls from Gmail, and the company is happy to announce that the same feature is back, and better than before. Calls to the US and Canada are now free from all countries where Hangouts calling is available. You can also use Google Voice to make phone calls anywhere with a low rate (as per Google). Google Voice rate per minute to France is $0.10, $0.02 in India, $0.10 in Germany, $0.15 in Mexico, etc.

With Hangouts, people can host conversations with up to 5 people by voice-only and up to 10 for video. Also sound effects can be added like applause or laughter with the Google Effects app. For sure, the company has made the conversation more interesting with these new additions.

How To Call?

To start calling, users can click on the new phone icon in Gmail, or go to the “Call a phone” menu item in Google+ and the Chrome extension.
