Samsung has finally officially announced the Galaxy S4 Active – a new rugged version of its popular Galaxy S4 smartphone. The new Active is Samsung’s answer to Sony’s smartphone offering like the Xperia Z or ZR, which just like Active, claim to be water and dust resistant.
The Galaxy S4 Active claims to be for those who are of the adventurous type or for those who prefer to use a water resistant phone. The new rugged phone from Samsung borrows many features from the S4, but differs in some regards.
The S4 comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera, while the Active comes with just an 8 megapixel camera. The Active, however, comes with a new Aqua mode that is specially designed to capture photos and videos underwater. This mode automatically enhances the photos underwater.
Apart from the camera, the other noticeable difference is the display. Both come with a 5-inch, 1920 x 1080 display, but the Active comes with a TFT LCD display while the original S4 comes with Super AMOLED display. Users who are used to the AMOLED display will definitely notice the difference in display quality in the S4 Active. Also, the Active comes with a unique Glove Touch technology, which enables you to use the phone even when you are wearing gloves.
