Thousands in Tahrir Square demand ousting  Mohamed Morsi

Thousands of anti-Mursi demonstrators chanted slogans against the president and the Muslim Brotherhood in Tahrir Square on Friday to demand for ousting him. A march coming from Mostafa Mahmoud Mosque joined the protesters calling for toppling Morsi, the state news agency MENA reported. With red cards in their hands, the demonstrators called for holding early presidential elections.

The demonstrators tried to prevent fire engines from approaching the torched building, the Middle East News Agency reported. Police interfered to allow the fire engines to pass through and put out the fire. Torching the Brotherhood’s headquarters coincided with an exchange of stones between protesters and the group’s members who were inside the headquarters. Thirty-two people were injured and transferred to hospitals.

1:10: Thousands of anti-Mohamed Morsi and -Muslim Brotherhood protesters took to the streets on Friday in several Egyptian cities including Tanta, Mahalla, Minya and Damietta.

Demonstrators in Mahalla set up two tents to stage a sit-in until June 30. They chanted slogans calling for toppling the regime. In Tanta, hundreds joined a march to demand ousting both President Mohamed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood. Political powers organised several marches in Minya, Samallout and Maghagha to call for toppling the president and the Brotherhood and to demand holding early presidential elections. In Minya, several groups roamed the streets while holding red cards to call for rallying on June 30. On the other hand, an unidentified flyer was distributed among the people in Minya warning them against demonstrating on June 30. Several political parties and powers participated in protests against Mursi and the Brotherhood and urge people to take to the street on June 30.

Mohamed ElBaradei condemned all forms of violence on Friday following clashes in several Egyptian cities between supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. “I strongly condemn violence in all forms against people irrespective of their beliefs or identity. The more peaceful, the stronger we become,” he tweeted.

Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Gehad al-Haddad accused the police, members of the disbanded National Democratic Party and people whom he called thugs of attacking eight headquarters belonging to both the Brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice Party on Friday. Two headquarters were torched and all were looted, al-Haddad wrote on Twitter. Eyewitnesses reported that anti- Mohamed Morsi and -Muslim Brotherhood attacked the Brotherhood’s and its party’s headquarters in Alexandria, Kafr al-Sheikh, Beheira, Daqahliya and Sharqiya.
