Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is building a brand new and impressive store inside the Stanford shopping mall. Not too far from the planned location is a more modest Apple store, however Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) recently opened their  store next door to the Apple store and featured a Maroon 5 concert at the grand opening.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) Building A New Store In Palo Alto

In the last few years, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been aggressive in the Palo Alto market. They company originally had a store location in downtown on University Avenue, then last fall they moved it to a bigger location in a more significant area. But now, the upcoming Stanford mall location will become the new flagship location.

According to Tech Crunch’s Billy Gallagher, “We’re told that the company tests its retail products at the Stanford Shopping Center and University Avenue locations; when the company began offering self checkout, the engineers who worked on the project were in those stores testing the new systems. This new flagship location offers enormous space for testing new retail products, and makes the nearby Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) store an afterthought at best.”

The store design was originally completed in 2011 before it was approved by Steve Jobs when he was still chief executive officer.

Palo Alto Online reported that the construction for the project was taking place seven days a week starting at 7:00 am daily. Although the store was initially supposed to be completed by November 2012, there were delays that could be attributed to sensitive glass design on the building. At press time, nobody knows exactly when the new store will officially open.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is well-known for their beautifully designed products and operating systems, so it seems only fitting that the Cupertino-based tech giant would model their retail stores with the same design aesthetic. To compete with Microsoft, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launched this store with a party or concert.
