Toyota Tops Brandz 100 List In Auto Industry

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) (TYO:7203) emerged as the top brand in the auto industry based on Brandz Top 100 Global Brands for 2013, as published by WPP, the largest communications services group worldwide.

Toyota Ranked 23rd On Top 100 Global Brands for 2013:

The list of Top 100 Global Brands for 2013 showed that Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) (TYO:7203) ranked 23rd on the list. The Japanese automaker surpassed BMW/Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (FRA:BMW) (FRA:BMW), which was behind at 24th place.

The brand value of Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) (TYO:7203) was $24.5 billion, an increase of 12 percent from the previous year. BMW/Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (FRA:BMW) (FRA:BMW) brand value was $24.01 billion, down by 2 percent from 2012.

Mercedes-Benz ranked 43rd, up by three places in the list after its brand value rose by 11 percent. Honda Motor Co Ltd (NYSE:HMC) (TYO:7267) dropped by six places, and its brand value dropped by 2 percent.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (OTCMKTS:NSANY) (TYO:7201) moved to number 86, and its brand value this year declined by 3 percent while Volkswagen AG (OTCMKTS:VLKAY) (ETR:VOW) managed to squeeze in the 100th place with $8.7 in brand value.  Its ranking was higher by four places last year.

It is interesting to note that none of the American car manufacturers such as General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) or Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) were included in the Top 100 most valuable brands. In fact, companies in the technology and telecommunications industries dominated the list.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) remained the most valuable brand. Its brand value increased by 1 percent this year to $185 billion; Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) held the second place with $113.6 billion brand value, up by 5 percent; while International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) came in third place with $112.53 billion brand value, down by 3 percent. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) raked 6th and 7th place with $75.5 billion $69.81 billion in brand value, respectively.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930), the strongest competitor of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the smartphone market ranked 30th. The brand value of the South Korean electronics manufacturer increased significantly by 51 percent to $21.4 billion, and its ranking went up by 25 places.

Social network giant Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) ranked 31st place with $21.26 billion in brand value, a decline of 36 percent. Its place in the list also dropped by 12 places from last year.
