Billionaire investor, George Soros’ latest 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) showed that market value of his hedge fund was $8,560, 747, 477 for the first quarter of 2013.

New Stockholdings

During the period, Soros Fund Management’s purchased 88 new equities and some of its significant stock acquisitions include Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BRCD), BMC Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:BMC), MeadWestvaco Corp. (NYSE:MWV), Red Hat Inc (NYSE:RHT), and Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKAM).

Soros bought 9,381,666 shares of Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BRCD) worth more than $54.132 million. The company provides internet protocol based Ethernet networking solutions and storage area networking solutions. It has a market cap of $2.53 billion and its shares are trading around $5.62 per share. Over the past 52 weeks, the stock rose from $4.18 to as much as $6.44 per share.

The hedge fund purchased 657,704 shares of BMC Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:BMC) with over $30.471 million market value. Over the 52-week range, the stock price of the company surged from $35.48 per share to as much as $47.98 per share. The company has $6.63 billion market capitalization.

The total amount of the 1,828, 858 shares of MeadWestvaco Corp. (NYSE:MWV) acquired by Soros was more than $66.423 million. The company provides packaging solutions for the agriculture, beverage, beauty & personal care, and healthcare industries. Over the past 52 weeks, the stock price of the company went up from $26.15 to $38.39 per share.

Meanwhile, Soros owned 1,047,028 shares of Red Hat Inc (NYSE:RHT) with a market value of approximately $52.937 and 600,000 shares of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKAM) worth $21.192 million. The stock price of Red Hat rose from $46.34 to $60 per share over the 52-week range and Akamai’s stock value climbed $25.90 to $48.44 per share. Take note that the stock value of its largest stockholdings are trending upward.

Increased Positions

Soros boosted his stockholdings in Cemex SAB de CV (NYSE:CX) by 4,350,000 shares, Caesars Entertainment Corp (NASDAQ:CZR) by 3,045,060 shares, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) by 148,531 shares, Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSEARCA:GDX) 1,141,000 shares, and Virgin Media Inc. (NASDAQ:VMED) by 1,516,600 shares.

Reduced Stockholdings

The billionaire investor made significant reductions in its stockholding during the period. Soros cuts its stake in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) by 157,176 shares. His remaining stake in the company is worth $11,863,288 or 26,800 shares.

Soros also reduced its position in American International Group Inc (NYSE:AIG) by 5,966,000 shares. He still owns 2,887, 849 shares of the insurance giant worth more than $112.106 million.

He also significantly cut his stake in Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C) by 7,580,751 shares. His remaining 544,500 shares have a market value of more than $24.008 million.

Sold Out Positions

Soros dumped his entire position in Capital One Financial Corp. (NYSE:COF), Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM), and Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) among others.
