iPhone 6 Concepts: Huge Display, No Home Button, Plastic Case

Updated on

There are new iPhone 6 concepts popping up almost daily as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) lovers prepare for the next version of the company’s handset. We’ve seen some very interesting ones so far, like the iPhone 6 concept that shows off water and dust resistance and wireless charging, and another which features an edge-to-edge screen.

Today’s concept videos show off an iPhone 6 that’s more like a phablet with a huge screen and another which doesn’t have the physical home button, which has practically become a trademark requirement for Apple devices. A third one backs up an earlier theory that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) might just turn to less expensive materials like plastic, illustrating how plastic could be molded in such a way that it doesn’t look cheap at all.

iPhone 6 Phablet With A 4.5 Inch Screen

Let’s start with the phablet-like iPhone 6. This concept comes from DeviantArt designer Fishbertus and was published by Chris Toberlake on SidhTech and Concept Phones.  These images show a device that’s the same size as the iPhone 5, although the screen now runs almost all the way to the edge on all four sides. This is similar to one of the earlier concept videos we’ve seen, although it stops short of being a true edge-to-edge screen.

The concept also features an octo-core CPU developed by Apple, which has 2 GB of RAM. It also has an exceptional camera with a shooting chip that’s said to be from Sony. It also comes with the possibility that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may decide to begin offering a 128GB smartphone.

The iPhone 6 in this concept also comes with a customizable interface which turns the home button into a touch-sensitive area on the screen.

Other iPhone 6 Phablet Concepts

Still others go further into the phablet idea for the iPhone 6, saying that the screen could by 4.8 or even 5 inches in size. Deepak Ahuja’s concept, which was published by Concept Phones, shows off a 4.8 inch screen and a rounded back.  A different concept pushes the display size up to 5 inches.

iPhone 6 Without A Home Button

There’s also a similar iPhone 6 concept video that’s circulating which also turns the physical home button into a touch-sensitive area on the device’s screen. This video came from Arthur Reiss and was published by SidhTech’s Justin Brown. The concept features a 12-megapixel camera and has an aluminum back.

Less Expensive iPhone 6 With Plastic Frame

And finally, we get to the less expensive iPhone concept. Phones Review made the case last week that Apple could make an attractive phone from plastic. I refuted that case because I couldn’t see Apple making products from anything but the best materials.

I have to admit though, that this new concept video from designer Ran Avni does make a plastic iPhone 6 look fairly attractive, especially if it gets the device into the hands of the masses in emerging markets. However, part of this is going to boil down to how the device feels in the hand. If it feels cheap, it still will reflect poorly on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), even if it doesn’t look cheap.
