Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has two brand new mobile applications for email and weather. On Thursday, the search giant’s chief executive officer Marissa Mayer introduced the new Yahoo Mail app for Apple’s iPad and Android tablets, as well as a new Yahoo Weather app for iPhone. On Tuesday, Mayer’s earning report was released and there was a promise made that Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) would release “beautiful products” very soon. The company certainly knows how to keep such promises.
The new Yahoo Mail for tablets will have a magazine-style presentation which makes it comparable with Flipboard, a cool news app that organizes news feeds into a virtual “magazine”. The new mail app will also present a unique opportunity for advertisers who want consumers to know more about their products or services. The previous report on Tuesday explained an overall profit growth with an 11 percent decline in display advertising revenue comparable from last year. It’s important to boost advertising revenue.
Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Mail for tablets will have people’s images and messages replace all the folders, buttons, and toolbars. This will give the new app a minimalist look that looks great on screen. Users can swipe across the screen to read each e-mail. That said, users can go back to the conventional inbox style if that’s what they want.
Senior vice president for mobile Adam Cahan explained, “You will have a hard time going back to a normal mail experience.”
The new weather iPhone app is also getting a significant makeover. This time, Yahoo pairs Flickr photos of the city you choose to monitor the weather.
The new apps should help boost Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)’s image. It’s crucial for tech companies to step outside the traditional box to create new and exciting things. Yahoo’s new email app is probably the most notable as it introduces a new way to view email. We can’t wait to see what they do next.
