How To Add Clock To Windows 8 Start Screen

Updated on

The Start Screen of Windows 8 is one of the most criticized aspect of Microsoft’s latest Operating System. Not only do many people dislike the lack of a Start Menu, there is also a lack of advanced customization options for the Start Screen. That’s the reason why there are so many new apps related to the Start Screen.

One of the most annoying things about the new Start Screen is that it doesn’t show the date and time; like the taskbar does on the Desktop. This means if you want to view the date and time, you’ll need to navigate away from the Start Screen and open the traditional Desktop. Fortunately, there are few third-party applications that can add a clock in a live tile. There are some paid as well as free apps for showing the time on the Start Screen, and in this article, we’ll be taking a look at some such free apps.

Open Microsoft Store, and search for “Clock Tile,” you’ll get results for clock tiles. But the results will include paid app. You can filter the results by clicking on “All prices” and then selecting “Free” from the drop-down.

At the time of writing this, there are a total of 106 such apps found. I downloaded the Zapi Live Clock and Clock Tile app. After the installation is complete, there will be a notification requesting permission to let the tile run in the background. Click on “Allow” to run it in the background.

Once installed, the clock tile will start displaying the time and date and it will update automatically with each minute.

The limitation of these apps is that they are not much customizable, in fact, many of these apps don’t even come with any configurable options. This means you cannot change the color of the clock.

I just hope Microsoft realizes their mistake and add their own clock tile to the next Windows 8 update, which should come with more customizable options. But for now, try using these free third-party live clock apps.
