Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) devices are the focus of an investigation in which four people in Winnipeg, Canada were arrested. The thefts are the latest in a line of incidents involving much-desired devices made by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). In December, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg blamed demand for the iPhone for the increase in his city’s crime rate. Statistics from the city’s police department also indicate that most of the increase in the city’s crime rate seem to be linked to the theft of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) devices.

In this latest case in Winnipeg, police arrested three men and one woman. One of those arrested worked at the business the items were stolen from. Police say their investigation revealed the theft of more than $13,000 in devices made by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). They said the devices had been stolen over a period of more than a year.

All four people who have been arrested in the case face charges of possession of goods from a crime and theft. Police say the thefts started in October 2011 and ended this month. They say the devices were stolen from a business on Oakpoint Highway in Winnipeg and then shipped to a different local business.

According to police, they began investigating the thefts in November and were able to determine that one of the business’ employees may have been stealing the products from the business. They also suspect that other employees of the business might have been involved in the crimes, possibly as suppliers of the stolen property.

So far there have been no other arrests in this case, but the police investigation is still ongoing.
