Research In Motion Limited (USA) (NASDAQ:RIMM) (TSE:RIM) plans to launch its new BlackBerry 10 devices at the end of January, with the hope of regaining popularity and new consumers. Despite all it focus on BB10, the company not forgetting its core enterprise roots launched its new BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES 10).
In a blog post, company said, “RIM’s enterprise mobility management solution with BlackBerry Enterprise Server has evolved over the past decade, and today we’re pleased to offer our re-invented solution to help businesses embrace mobile trends and enable management, productivity, and secure interaction with corporate data.”
In August, Research In Motion Limited (NASDAQ:RIMM) (TSE:RIM) released the specifications of the new system for businesses, with the promise to launch the service in the first quarter of 2013. RIM has been under intense pressure from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) — which invested in enterprise-focused Fixmo this week.
The company’s new enterprise service groups all its services in one place, at the same time allowing easier management of non-BlackBerry devices. With BES 10, Research In Motion’s umbrella of services including mobile device management (MDM), security, infrastructure, and app management products will come under a “single unified web-based console.”
“We continue to be the leading smartphone in enterprises, yet we recognize it is a heterogeneous world,” said Peter Devenyi, RIM’s Senior Vice President for Enterprise Software. “That’s why it’s so critical for BES 10 to support not only BlackBerry devices but other devices.”
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) this week in an ad targeted at RIM made fun that most companies are limited to using BlackBerry devices for ‘work phones’.
Research In Motion Limited (NASDAQ:RIMM) (TSE:RIM) informed that 1600 North American companies have signed up for a training program for the service and 130 corporate customers are already testing an early version of the service, after paying a one-time fee of $99 per user.
Both BES 10 and the new Blackberry 10 devices have already received Federal Information Processing Standard FIPS.L 140-2 certification. FIPS is a security clearance from U.S. government, allowing government agencies to use the new devices as soon as they are launched.
According to Peter Devenyi, Research In Motion’s senior head of enterprise software, the new device management system has RIM’s core strength of security and offers a range of innovations serving the demands of IT departments.
“We definitely anticipate that (enterprise) customers will be making the switch to BB10 rapidly,” said Devenyi.
The BES 10 also supports Research In Motion Limited’s (NASDAQ:RIMM) (TSE:RIM) BlackBerry Balance technology, helping IT department to categorize work applications and data on BlackBerry devices from personal content. “BlackBerry Balance is a truly differentiated feature that’s built into the core of BlackBerry 10,” said Devenyi. “This opens up the world of personally owned devices in a way that make IT departments and corporations comfortable, because they can truly manage the corporate side of the device, while not inhibiting the use of the device by the individual who actually owns it.”
