Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s latest spat with Twitter has the new Vine app as its battleground. Twitter unveiled Vine yesterday. It’s a new video sharing service which makes it possible for users to share short video clips with others.
All Things D reports that not long after Twitter launched the Vine app, Facebook cut off access to the app’s “find people” feature. That feature was supposed to enable Vine users search Facebook and find their friends. Vine users who do try to find their friends on Facebook using the Vine app are got an error message instead. Also Slashgear reports that Vine users who tried to share their videos to their Facebook timeline also received an error message.
It’s fairly common for apps to make it easy for users to find their friends on other social networking sites so that they don’t have to spend time trying to find them within the app itself. However, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter have been at each other’s throats recently, so it isn’t a shock that the connection through the Vine app has been blocked.
When Facebook acquired Instagram, it stopped supporting Twitter cards and then totally disabled the integration of photos. Twitter acquired Vine last year, although the company’s app hadn’t actually launched. Some people believe Twitter bought Vine because of the talent at the firm.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter have not responded to media inquiries for comments on this latest development in their relationship, or as it seems now, lack of one.
