Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has just announced that it is releasing its “Year in Review 2012” today. The feature examines the “people, moments, and things that created the most buzz in 2012.”
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) said it examined the pulse of its global community to figure out the top events, the most-listened to songs, and other major news makers from this year. Users can also access their own “Year in Review” timeline to see the 20 biggest moments from their own year, including their major life events and their most popular stories.
So what made the top of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s “Year in Review 2012” list? The social media giant listed the U.S. presidential election and Superbowl XLVI as the top two major events this year, followed by singer Whitney Houston’s death and Hurricane Sandy.
Users will also notice that politics and football had a hand in the most popular public figures. President Barack Obama and Republican runner-up Mitt Romney were the top two most popular public figures. Tim Tebow came in 4th on the list, and Eli Manning and Peyton Manning tied for fifth. The boy band One Direction sneaked into third place on the list.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) listed the most-listened to songs as “We Are Young,” which features Janelle Monae and is from the band Fun. Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” came in second place, while Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” came in third. “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction and “Payphone” by Maroon 5 rounded out the top five songs for 2012 on the social networking site.
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) users also apparently loved The Hunger Games in 2012. The movie topped Facebook’s list of most popular movies for the year, and the three books in the series landed in the top three spots on the site’s most-read books.
