The Nexus 4 is now available on Google Play. The new gadget became available at 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) sent the following email, “Nexus 4 will be available for purchase later today! Order yours from Google Play starting today, November 27 at 12:00 noon PST (U.S. only).”
Unfortunately, there is no word on just how many Nexus 4 devices will be in stock. This device features a 4.7 inch display that measures 1,280 by 768, 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Processor, 8 megapixel rear camera, and 1.2 megapixel camera in the front.
The Nexus 4 also has a cool feature called Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Now, with real-time traffic information, flight schedules, and sports scores. It also works with NFC Android Beam to share photos and apps. It also has wireless charging.
This phone is available through Google. It retails $299 for 8GB and $349 for 16GB. You can also purchase the 16GB version via T-Mobile for $199.
These smartphones are a popular alternative to the perennial favorites iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III. Despite the fact Google sold out of all their Nexus 4 smartphone devices right after the initial launch, Google has yet to disclose the number of devices they sold. This makes it hard to decipher if Google truly sold out because of demand or because of supply issues. I guess we will find out in the next few days and/or months.
According to Asus, the Nexus 7 tablet (which originally launched last summer) has started to approach the 1 million sales per month mark. This may mean that the Nexus 4 smartphone is selling almost as well. For now, only time will tell if the current trend of Google’s Nexus products will continue to make good sales. It would be interesting if Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) brought more competition against Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94). Although I’m not certain if that would ever happen, I do believe that Nexus will make at least a small impact in the smartphone market.
