iPhone 5 Beats Galaxy S III In Web Traffic Volume

It hasn’t been a full month since the iPhone 5 was released, but it’s already exceeded the Samsung Galaxy S III in terms of traffic volume.

Chitika’s recent study results regarding web traffic volume shows the key difference between the millions of mobile impressions from both smartphones. The project was recorded from the dates of October 3rd through October 9th 2012.  Apple’s sixth generation smartphone has about 56% of the traffic, whereas Samsung’s has about 44%.

Chitika’s blog post points out, “Only 18 days since the public release of the iPhone 5, the newest Apple device has overtaken the Galaxy S III in terms of Web traffic volume.  Record-breaking sales numbers, along with new 4G browsing speeds which encourage data usage are the most likely explanation for this tremendous growth.”

Although there is an ongoing battle between the two companies on which smartphone reigns supreme, both have their fair share of advantages.  The Samsung Galaxy S III has a large 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display, 4G LTE, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, Wi-Fi,  NFC, and 8 megapixel camera with flash. The iPhone 5 features a longer body, 4 inch Retina display, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and 8 megapixel iSight camera with LED flash.

When it comes to smartphones, the Apple iPhone is the clear winner, but that certainly doesn’t mean that Galaxy S III is a loser. Just this pasr summer, sales for the Galaxy S III surpassed sales for the iPhone 4s. Although sales for Samsung’s flagship phone have slowed down a bit since the arrival of the iPhone 5, the numbers are still climbing, albeit at a slower rate.

What does Chitika’s results mean for the Apple and Samsung? It just means that iPhone users are more likely than Galaxy users to use their smartphone to surf the internet, engage in social media, and shop. Although they didn’t give any reason as to why iPhone users are more active than Galaxy users, it’s possible that Apple users are more affluent and can afford to go over their allotted data minutes.
