Microsoft Shows Brand New Logo Design, A First Since 1987

As part of making over their image, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) just announced their brand new logo design, which hasn’t been changed since 1987.

Their new logo is decidedly modern and it also features their famous window pane design.  The company’s general manager of brand strategy, Jeff Hansen, recently chatted with the Seattle Times to talk about this major improvement.  He said the design was a “signal (of the) the heritage but also (a) signal (of) the future — a newness and freshness.”

That’s not the only thing Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is doing in an effort of re-branding their image. The tech giant is also getting ready to launch a new operating system, titled Windows 8, as well as the Windows 8 Phone and Surface tablet.

Hansen also mentioned “there may be other instances where you will see the old logo being used for some time.”

A new logo is just the beginning.  If Microsoft is serious about changing up their image, it’s going to take a lot more. For years, they have been the leader in personal computers and laptops. But, thanks to the fairly recent shift to tablet computers and smartphones, the company has been having a hard time keeping up with the recent technology changes.  This isn’t the first time they released Windows-based phones and tablets. The company has previously launched Windows Nokia phones, but unfortunately, they’ve failed to make the sales. Their tablet computers have also failed to make a splash, but Microsoft has big plans for for Surface, which is said to be their first all-Microsoft tablet computer.

Between now and October, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has a lot to do in terms of marketing and business. Hopefully, they have focused on making significant improvements on their operating system to ensure minimal glitches and problems.  I think their best bet is to focus on improving their upcoming software system to ensure that they’ve got a quality product that will sell itself.
