Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) halted the market launch of its Nexus Q streaming media player to add more features to the device. The company listened to the feedback of early users, who said they want Nexus Q to do more than its existing functionalities.
Enthusiastic consumers who placed pre-orders on the media player will definitely jump for joy, despite the delay. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) decided to ship the Nexus Q devices to pre-order customers for free instead of paying $299.
Early reviews of the Nexus Q media player came from journalists and developers, who receive free devices during Google I/O conference. Reviewers were happy about the hardware. Majority opine that the media player supports limited service. According to them, it only plays audio from Google music, and video from Google Play and YouTube.
David Pogue, a blogger from the New York Times described Nexus Q as a “beautiful black sphere,” and wildly over-built for its incredibly limited functions, and far too expensive.” According to him, users can’t play videos loaded on their phones or tablets, they cannot play slideshows of photo’s stored in the phone to the TV, can’t play shows from Hulu or Netflix (Nasdaq:NFLX), and many other functionalities he wished the media player could co.
Tim Stevens of Engadget wrote a long and detailed review about his experience using Nexus Q. In summary he said, “The Nexus Q is an impressive piece of hardware that, given time and a serious augmentation of capability, could mature into a very exciting little thing. Right now, though, the Q feels like a high-priced novelty.”
With the above comments, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) will definitely do something to make the customers happy and meet their expectations considering its value. Google did not specify what features will be added to the Nexus Q, but the company assured customers that they will make the device better.

We have an important update about your Nexus Q pre-order.
When we announced Nexus Q at Google I/O, we gave away devices to attendees for an early preview. The industrial design and hardware were met with great enthusiasm. We also heard initial feedback from users that they want Nexus Q to do even more than it does today. In response, we have decided to postpone the consumer launch of Nexus Q while we work on making it even better.
To thank you for your early interest, we’d like to extend the Nexus Q preview to our pre-order customers and send you a free device. If you had other items in your order, your credit card will be charged for those items only.
Your Nexus Q will be on its way soon and you will receive a notification and tracking number from Google Play when it ships.
