Despite Component Shortage, iPhone 5 To Still Launch In September

Updated on

The nearer we are to the release date of iPhone 5, the more rumors and reports leak on the web. Some few days back we reported that the next generation of iPhone will feature a small 8-pin dock connector and we have also posted the video of how this new device might look like.

Today, we have exciting news related to the launch date of the iPhone 5. According to AppleInsider’s “trusted industry insider”, Apple will launch their next generation iPhone in September, despite the rumors about the component shortage.

Despite Component Shortage, iPhone 5 To Still Launch In September

According to an analyst, the next-generation iPhone is entering the production verification test (PVT) stage, but the availability of components like in-cell touch panels which are manufactured by Sharp and LG, are tight due to decreased yield rates. However, these manufacturers will be able to supply the touch panels to Japanese display maker JDI, which means that stock will reach a whopping 10 million units before this third quarter. The total supply is expected to reach between fourteen to eighteen million units this third quarter, which is a sufficient figure to launch the next generation iPhone.

Some other components, like metal and glass cases are also available in good supply, and we can expect the iPhone to come in two colors – black and white. The supply of baseband chips, which are to be used in the upcoming handset won’t be a problem, as the company can use the Qualcomm’s MDM9615M silicon, which is an improved version of the chip that’s used in the new iPad (third generation).

Talking about the leaked images of iPhone 5, then they seem to be very authentic. The top and bottom of the casing may feature Gorilla Glass for heat dissipation and better cellular reception. This design can help Apple tackle the issue of connectivity, which was faced with the iPhone 4.

Multiple sources have claimed that Apple is going to reveal this device on September 12th, and perhaps the company will also launch their smaller version of iPad, which can be termed as iPad Mini. If announced, then we can expect the availability of both these products in a few days, as Apple has always been very quick to launch their products after announcing them.
