Carl Icahn Reports Buys Chesapeake Adds To Take-Two

Activist investor Carl Icahn reported a fairly quiet quarter, with no new investments added to his portfolio. The one investment of note, in which he did increase his holdings, is Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO). He reported a holding of nearly 7.9 million shares in Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO), as of June 30, which is a substantial step up from the 7.3 million shares he reported in March. Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO) has been a profitable investment for Icahn, and apparently he believes they will grow even more in coming quarters.

Icahn also reduced his holdings in Commercial Metals Company (NYSE:CMC), a steel manufacturer. On April 17th, Icahn reported in a separate securities filing, that he held 8.7 million shares in the company. According to this filing, he has reduced that number down close to 8 million.

Other noted actions included that Icahn has closed his position in Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLN), which was sold to Bristol Myers Squibb Co. (NYSE:BMY) earlier this month. The sale reportedly had a figure of $5.3 billion.

Icahn also reported that his stake in Navistar International Corp (NYSE:NAV)  was just under 15% of the commercial truck builder’s outstanding shares. Carl Icahn has been trying to fight for change at the company.

Icahn has purchased50 million shares of Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK), or 8.9% of Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK)’s total shares outstanding. Dan Loeb has purchased debt of Chesapeake. Mason Hawkins another value investor is the largest shareholder of the troubled natural gas company.

Some information, (especially for activist investors like Carl Icahn) was omitted on the 13F filing, per SEC rules, regarding positions which are being built, or eliminated altogether. This is a safety feature, designed to prevent other investors from following suit.

Icahn is a well known, and respected investor. He’s famous for his wise decisions, and savvy investments. Though he may be 76 years old, his age seems to play no factor in his investment savvy ways. He is an icon of experience, and one of the most successful investors on Wall Street.
