Google’s Nexus 7 Gets iPad Like Smart Cover

Updated on

The least known feature of Google’s Nexus 7, is that it comes with something like a smart cover sensor, just like iPad. Strangely, Google has never advertised this feature, nor on their website or during the Google I/O event.

This technology is not new, as it already exists in laptops, iPad 2, and the new iPad (third generation), and also in some BlackBerry devices. Cases for any tablet are one of the most used and highest selling accessories. Amidst all the hype about the Nexus 7 tablet, UK based retailer MobileFun, has launched SD TabletWear cases, which work just like the iPad smart cover but made sepcially for Nexus 7.

Google's Nexus 7 Gets iPad Like Smart Cover

Apple’s smart cover protects the front of the device and it can also turn the iPad on and off, using the magnet that detects the position of the cover. Nexus 7, Google’s 7-inch tablet, also comes with the same technology which means when you close the cover, it activates sleep mode and, when you open the cover, it turns on (or wakes up).

MobileFun has published a video which shows two types of cases for Nexus 7 – the stand and type case; and the SmartCase. These cases are made of reinforced materials which protects your precious tablet from dropping or smashing and they also work a as stand so that you always don’t have to hold the device. Take a look at this video to get more ideas about these SmartCases.

Now that these cases are here, Google’s Nexus 7 has one more useful accessory, which can protect the device from damage and also works as a stand.

This tablet has got some good reviews on many technology blogs, and best of all, it costs just $199 which means its affordable. We’ll not be surprised if we see many such other useful accessories in the market. So, are you going to purchase this SmartCase for your Nexus 7?
