Google Aligns Itself With The Celebrations of Ramadan

The holy month of Ramadan has started, and over a billion Muslims all over the world will observe fasting from dawn to sunset for the whole month. This year, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) will help people celebrate the occasion by broadcasting the live prayers from Mecca through a fully dedicated YouTube Channel.

During Ramadan, people gather with their family and friends, and together watch Ramadan-related TV shows. However, most of the times they miss their favorite programs due to scheduling and overlapping issues. Therefore, for the first time in the era of Internet, Google has launched a new dedicated YouTube Ramadan Channel on which people can watch over 50 Ramadan shows on the same day TV channels broadcast them. To make it convenient for users, Google has categorized all the shows based on their genre and title.

“This innovative project is the first-of-its-kind and showcases the momentum YouTube has generated as a destination for premium content for our users,” says Ari Kesisoglu, Google’s Managing Director  for Middle East and North Africa.

Though fasting is the most important part of the celebrations, enjoying the food is also a tradition. People gather after the sunset for Iftar (break-the-fast meals). During the Iftar, Google will be hosting 30 virtual get-togethers through Google+ Hangouts, in which doctors will give advice on healthy eating, top celebrity chefs will share their recipe secrets, and prominent public figures will share everything about Ramadan.

We hope digital technology will add more joy in the holy month of Ramadan, one of the oldest holy celebrations in the world.
