Microsoft Tablet event

The media and entire tech world was waiting today for a big announcement by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). Intial rumors last week speculated that Microsoft might be launching a new tablet to compete with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s popular iPad. Although Microsoft dominates the PC industry, it has little presence in the rapidly growing tablet and smartphone market. Apple Inc.’s iPad and Google’s android currently dominate the tablet market.

Today, it was denied that the announcement had anything to do with a tablet. The tablet was likely to be launched in conjunction with Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS). Dow Jones, confirmed that Barnes & Nobles would not even be present at the announcement.

The whole event has been clouded in secrecy with many people guessing what will happen. However, It was expected that a new product would be unveiled. The product is expected to be some form of tablet. Microsoft told journalists “You will not want to miss it.”

The conference got started off late and with after hour trading closing soon, it is strange the announcement is being made so late at night.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) at the conference just announced the long awaited news. Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, after keeping everyone waiting a really long time just unveiled Microsoft Surface. Ballmer described the tablet as  “A tablet that’s a great PC, a PC that’s a great tablet. A new kind of computing.”
