Sony Announces Xperia Go and Xperia Acro S, The Waterproof Smartphones

Sony has announced two new smartphones – the Xperia Go and Xperia Acro S. What makes them special is that they are tough phones, highly durable and water resistant. Both these phones will be available by Q3 this year.

Sony Xperia Go (pictured above) can be called the smaller sibling of Acro S. It is more rugged of the two, having an IP67 dust and water resistant rating which is the highest level of rating awarded to a smartphone. Talking about specs, this phone features dual-core 1GHz processor, 3.5″ display powered by Bravia engine which is scratch resistant and 5MP camera. Xperia Go will be launching with the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) but Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) is promised. In the U.S., this phone will launch under the name of “Xperia advance”. This phone will available with a choice of black, white and yellow.

The second new phone is the Xperia Acro S (pictured above) which boasts a stunning 4.3″ (720p) bravia display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. This phone has received IP55 and IP57 ratings for dust and water, respectively. The phone is equipped with 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, stunning 12MP camera which can record full HD 1080p videos. The phone comes with Android Ice Cream Sandwich which means that you don’t need to wait for the ICS update. Color options include black, white and pink.

Both of these phones seems to be impressive, at least by looking at their tech specs and also considering that they are tough phones. But we’ll need to wait for detailed reviews to know how well can they actually perform in real world conditions.
