Apple Introducing 3D Maps in iOS 6, App Expected To Look Like This

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) plans to go three dimensional this summer, at least with their new Maps iOS 6 app. It’s been a long time coming, but it appears  the company is ready to release their first in-house mapping application.

This exclusive news, which was reported by BGR, comes from a reliable but unnamed source. The new app’s design has a unique interface with three-dimensional images and a silver navigation bar.  The iPhone version of this app also features a “locate me” button that floats on the screen that’s similar to the button on the Android screen.  To utilize the app in 3D, you’ll need to move the lower right corner back to enable the feature which will allow you to switch back and forth simply by tapping the icon in the corner. You can check out some of the photos below to see what this new app will look like.

Previously, Apple used Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) maps for their iOS systems although a few months ago they switched Google’s maps on their iPhoto app for OpenStreetMaps instead. It looks like Apple is ready to give their number one competitor the boot!

This news proves that iOS 6 is on its way and that probably means we’re even closer to the announcement of the iPhone 5.  We will probably find out more about this new app as well as learn more about exciting advancements regarding Apple products next month at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

This is very exciting news. For the first time we have actual images to back up the report. I expect within a few days and in the upcoming weeks, we’re going to hear more reports on what we can expect from iOS 6 and iPhone 5 but unless it’s from a credible source and/or has the images to back the claims, I wouldn’t pay much attention to them.

As I mentioned earlier in this post, the new 3D maps app will feature a silver bar instead of the traditional blue bar probably indicates that iOS 6 will feature a color scheme that’s very similar to the color scheme on the iPad.
