Warren Buffett, Chairman & CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B)  aged 81, is probably the most famous investor ever. While his position on the Forbes List of the World’s Richest People changes slightly over the years – currently he stands at number 3 – he is definitely one of if not the most consistent top performers on that list. His investment holding Berkshire Hathaway achieved a compounded annual gain of 19.8% from 1965 until today. This equals a cumulated gain of more than 513,000%.

Warren Buffett is a Value Investor. The basic investment principles of Warren Buffett and his partner Charlie Munger (chairman of Berkshire Hathaway) are that they only invest in businesses, which they understand and that are led by a good management as well as valued at a fair price. After the financial crisis he was one of the first investors who was bullish on American stocks.

Despite being one of the wealthiest persons on the planet, Warren Buffett personally is not too interested in money. He still lives in the house he purchased more than four decades ago. Together with Melinda and Bill Gates, Warren Buffett initiated the Giving Pledge, which is asking hundreds of wealthy Americans to give away at least 50 percent of their wealth to charity. Warren Buffett made in 2006 the pledge to give more than 99% of this wealth to philantrophic foundations.
