Earlier this week 25 suspected members of the “hacktivist” group Anonymous were arrested by the Interpol. Anonymous is known by hacking several government websites in order to make a statement. They team up with WikiLeaks to make public five million emails from a known company of geopolitical analysis Stratfor. Now the FBI is making statements regarding these types of attacks.
Cyberterrorism doesn’t exist in a formal way, but Security experts think that it is a real threat.
The FBI claims that hackers might replace terrorists. Robert Mueller, FBI Director talked to group of cybersecurity experts, that this online attacks will replace terrorism and are real threat to the U.S.
Mueller also said at the RSA Digital Security Conference in San Francisco: “We are losing data, we are losing money, we are losing ideas and we are losing innovation”, “Together we must find a way to stop the bleeding.”
The FBI Director also commented: “State-sponsored hackers spy on the United States and steal intellectual property and trade secrets from the U.S.” He also said that no one is immune to the cyber attacks: "There are only two types of companies: Those that have been hacked, and those that will be."
The FBI is trying to catch the “cyberterrorists” or “hackers”, and has cybersquads on each one of their offices, including trained agents and other specialists.
There might be more than one hackers group, and the FBI is concerned about the security of all kind of information. We will see all kind of reactions from this groups and what the authorities have to say.
