US Manufacturing Sees 1st Sustained Rise Since 1998

Updated on

US Manufacturing Employment is undergoing a reemergence from the historic lows seen Dec 2009. Since then 472,000 additional individuals are working in manufacturing jobs and the term heard often is the implementation of “Lean Mfg” to make US firms globally competitive-Chart 1. This occurs as the cost advantages from sourcing goods overseas have turned this advantage to favor the US. The Establishment Survey reports higher manufacturing employment than that from ADP because ADP does not count those companies which report to the Bureau of Labor which do not use ADP services. One can infer that the smaller manufacturers are responsible for greater levels of hiring than larger companies as has been seen in other data trends.
